12 November

Dear Parents

A big thank you to Susanne Brown and the Fair Committee for organising another excellent school fair last Sunday. Thank you to all the teachers, children and parent helpers who ensured its success by helping on the day. Once again we had good weather after a shaky start and everyone had an enjoyable time.

Many of you will have read the article in this week’s ‘New Idea’, about McKenzie in Room 6. Next Friday, 19 November is ‘Red Nose Day’ in support of Cure Kids. To support this, we will be selling red noses for $2, at school next week. The children can wear these at school on Friday. All money received will go to Cure Kids through Paper Plus Book shops.

Our prayers are with the Sievwright & McDowell families this week.

Room 6 Class Happenings

Here is some of the Room 6 writing about the school fair last Sunday.

On Sunday, 7 November 2010, the school fair was on and lots of people were there. We had a BBQ and pony rides. It was so much fun but the first thing I did was the hair do! The lady put my hair in a bun with glitter and spray. I looked pretty and after that I went on the bouncy castle. I went boing, boing! It was fun. After that I decided to get a piece of candy floss. It was yummy but I got a little sticky but that was OK because I could always wash it off. Afterwards I got my face painted. It was a butterfly with purple, pink, blue and green. It was pretty. I liked it. Then I thought I could try to win something off the chocolate wheel but I didn’t and then everybody got tired and went home. After I got home I wrote a story about it and had an ice block. It was cold. Macy Richardson

It was the fair on Sunday. I was very happy. Piper and I ran together for the whole fair. When Dad was driving the boat, Piper and I jumped in. Dad said, “No free rides” so no free rides. We jumped out. I saw Chloe, my friend from St John’s penguins. From the ice cream van I bought a chocolate bomb and some ice cream. I had 4 candy floss bags and some fizzy. I bought two guns for Jack. I did the Lucky Dip two times. The chocolate wheel is a good waste of money. I wish it was chocolate but it was not. After the fair, I played. Caitlin Smith

Before I went to the fair I was playing with my cousin Brody then we went to the fair. I got a spider and an ice block too. I got to go on the boat and the bungy. I got my hair sprayed orange and yellow and spikes all over my head. My dad and Nana and I tried the chocolate wheel and my Nana won the chocolate wheel. She got a netball with signatures on it. I had the best time in my life.
Shaun Wilks

I went to the Sacred Heart School fair on Sunday. The school fair was fun. My Dad’s friend had a son and his name was Zak and I got a star wars gun and it was cool. I got some candy floss. It was yummy. Max and I played tag with Brenna and Paige in the bouncy castle. It was fun. I went on the bouncy castle 4 times. Sometimes I went with Caleb and sometimes I went with Max. The school fair was really cool. I went on the boat ride. It was really fast. A truck was pulling it around. I had a sore leg when I got off the bouncy castle. I got a drink with Max. He got orange and I got the same as him. I got a game at the white elephant. It was a war game. It was ‘Knights vs Ogres”. I played it at home and the Star Wars gun can shoot bullets. I got a dinosaur book. It tells all about dinosaurs.
McKenzie Devlin

Please feel free to come in and read your child’s writing. There are some great newspaper reporters in Room 6.

PTA ~ Fair
A huge thank you goes out to the whole school community for your support in making last Sunday’s school fair such a success. This includes not only your help in the stalls, set-up and clean-up on the day, but also for your baking, gifts, donated goods and sponsorships – without any of this the fair could not take place. Over the next couple of weeks we will be acknowledging those businesses who supported us and ask that, where you can, you look to support them to.

I would personally like to thank the Fair Committee who was made up of volunteer parents from throughout the school, who worked tirelessly in the background preparing for the day to ensure it was a success. Without such a dedicated and hard working team these types of events never happen.

Special thanks to Miss Tagamoa, who was our staff representative on the committee, and who also gave up lots of valuable time and energy to participate fully in the whole event.

Thanks also to all the older children from rooms 8 & 9 who helped on the stalls throughout the day, and to the Mr Forde and all the staff, board and parents, ex pupils, who all volunteered their time to help either before or on the day of, to ensure everyone had the chance to enjoy the day.

We hope to have the approximate profit total very soon as we wait for the final costs and last of the remaining funds to be banked. At this point though we are very happy with the interim results and believe it to be another very successful school fair.

It was a fantastic day for families to get together as part of our Sacred Heart School community to have some fun and enjoy each other’s company, whilst raising money for a very worthwhile cause and something we all have a vested interest in.
Thanks again to everyone. Susanne Brown ~ PTA Chairman

Calendars - Don’t be worried if you didn’t get a chance to order your child’s school calendar on the day of the fair, these will be on display and available to be ordered later this month. Details will be sent home with an order form. For those who did order at the fair and did not pay on the day – we will require payment at the same time the class order forms will be due (late November/early December) or you can also leave your payment with Christine at the office now.
Thanks
PTA

Home baking to be sold in the cake stall – this can be anything like biscuits, cakes, muffins, loaves, slices, homemade lollies etc. These can be dropped at the hall kitchen on Sat 6th Nov, between 2.00pm and 3.00pm, or prior to 10.30am on Sunday morning.

Scones for our Devonshire Tea stall. Below we have published the recipe and ask any parents who are able to make a batch for Sunday to do so – please deliver fresh or frozen scones to the hall prior to 10.30am. (Frozen is fine as they thaw fast)

White elephant stall anything for this can be delivered Sat 9am – 3pm to the hall, or if you can’t make it on Saturday then, between 9 -10am Sunday morning.

Also gardeners, if there are veggies spare in the garden (or in Granddad’s) please bring these prior to 10.30am on the day of the Fair for the Chocolate Wheel – these are always a hit.

Kids remember to bring your coins on the day to help with the flow of change.
Eftpos will be available in the office but it would be great if families could bring some cash to start.
Plastic shopping bags are always needed to carry purchases so bring to the hall kitchen if you have spare.
The weather is going to be fine so sun block and hats so we are safe in the sun.

Room 5 Class Happenings

On Wednesday we went and watched the Tour of Southland whiz past school.
In writing we have been learning to make sure we include interesting words in our stories. Below are some children’s recounts on Wednesday’s Tour of Southland.

Today we cheered really loud for the Tour of Southland. It made me feel happy because they went so fast past our school. It was really cool that we got to make flags to wave to the hundreds of cyclists. I think that our class was the loudest. By Sionelle

This morning we didn’t have prayers first thing we went and watched the cyclists go past our school. We cheered real loud because a man said if we cheer real loud it would make the cyclists go extra fast. By Kate

On Wednesday morning we went and watched the Tour of Southland and I got a banger.
I didn’t even bang it loud. Some people were handing out lollies, but I didn’t get any. The bikers came past fast. There were lots and lots of bikers; I think their legs will get sore.
By Shaun

In the morning we watched the Tour of Southland. I made a flag. We needed to cheer loud. Our whole school came out. I felt happy because I don’t get to watch the cyclists much. There were lots of cyclists, they were cycling to Tuatapere.
I saw some people from the Share the Road team. By Jakobe

In R.E we are learning about Saints and the qualities that they hold.
Saint Nicholas is my favourite saint because he gives to others. By Ben

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton is my favourite saint because she never gave up and got the schools for the children she taught. By Devan

Joan of Arc is my favourite saint because she pretended to be a boy so she could fight for her country. By Emma M

PLEASE REMEMBER TWO THINGS:
HAVE YOUR SUNHAT AT SCHOOL EACH DAY
NO TOYS TO BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL
