Dear Parents

Welcome back to Term 2. It was good to have such fine weather over the Easter break.
A reminder about interviews on this Monday & Tuesday. School closes at 12.30 pm on Monday.
The interviews are 3 way for all classes – with your child having input into their learning goals and next steps. Please leave other children outside. Our aim is to raise self-esteem by making each child the most important person for each interview. The time limit for these is 15 mins each so please be punctual and adhere to the bell.
The major item in the news this week is the threat of “Swine Flu” pandemic. It does show how small the modern world is and how easily these viruses can spread.
A couple of years ago all schools had to develop pandemic plans to combat the Saars Virus prevalent in Asia. While at the time it seemed rather pointless to worry about this in Invercargill, recent events in Mexico show nowhere is safe. An interesting fact around the current media circus is that the first fatality was recorded in
March, yet there hasn’t been any coverage until this week.

Some of the terms events include:

Skills programme at Stadium for Rooms 3, 5, 7
Aerobics Festival
School Production

Welcome to Emma Livingstone & Max Sievwright who joined the children in Room 2 on Monday.
We hope they enjoy their time with us at Sacred Heart School.

ROOM 1 CLASS HAPPENINGS
ROOM ONE CHILDREN love the new bean bags TESSA’S MUM and NANA made. We have been thinking of ways we can use them. WILL and BILLY think we can throw them up and get them to land on our heads. BREYAH and KATELYN think we could throw them up and get them to land on one hand. TESSA and LUCY decided to balance them on their heads. BROOKLYN and AVA-MOLLEE thought they would throw them up and catch them with two hands. CORBYN and OLIVER tried to crawl around and balance them on their backs. XANTHE and ALEX tried to throw them up and catch them on their knees. GRETA and MATTHEW H tried to throw them up and catch them on their heads. PARIS and MATTHEW F are going to walk around and balance them on their heads.

PTA ~ Mothers Day Fundraiser –Friday 8th May
The PTA asks that each child brings a small unwrapped gift suitable for a Mothers Day present. The value of the gift should be no more than $2 and may in fact be hand made by your children. For example it could be a small $2 trinket from the $2 shop, children’s poems, paintings, pictures etc put together by children as a gift of art, baking by children (eg a muffin in a home made box).
Items are to be left at the office but obviously if your child would like to bake, then this will need to be dropped off on the morning of Friday 8th May. On this Friday, the children will have the opportunity to select and buy a gift for $1 per child, from the gifts brought to school by all the children. They will then have a surprise gift to give to their mother without her seeing what it is.
