Dear Parents

It is hard to believe we have been back at school for 2 weeks, and that our first week of school swimming is completed.
A big thank you to all the parents who have been able to help at the pool.

Our prayers are with the Hosie family at this sad time.

MERCY CHARISM
To highlight the input of the Sisters Of Mercy in Sacred Heart School we are to rename our "Positive Behaviour Box" the MERCY CHARISM box. When the children show the values of: Being Fair and Just, Caring for Others, Trust in God, Welcoming, Serving others and Showing compassion, they are given a special token and at assembly one token is drawn from the box. That child will receive a special cup which they will keep in their class for a week.
We look forward to seeing the Mercy Charism reflected in the behaviours we see at school.

Parent Info Night
Thank you to the parents able to attend our Meet the Teacher and Keeping Ourselves Safe information evening this week.
As I mentioned we will hold an information evening on our Reporting System in the next couple of weeks. I will let you know as soon as the date is set.

Athletics
As well as swimming, children are also practising for our Zone Athletics on 8th March. Children who were 8, 9 & 10 at 31/12/2010 will be competing in all track & field events. The fastest 7 yr olds at 31/12/2010 will be competing in the 60 & 100m

Internet Images
All classes have or will have class blogs where items of children’s work is often displayed. These are a useful reference point as to what is happening in your child’s class. From time to time photo’s are included. If you do not wish to have your child’s photo in school publications, please let the classroom teacher know.

Sacred Heart Achievers
Please let us know if your child has excelled in some area of sport or culture, as we would like to recognise them on our Achievers Board.

Skateboard Area
On Fridays children will be able to bring their skateboards to school for use in a designated area. They must have helmets, knee and elbow pads.

Spare Uniform
If your child was sent home from school in borrowed shorts or top etc, could you please return them asap, as we are short on spares.
If you have any items of clothing at home that your child has out grown, we would appreciate them for our supplies at school.

Collection of Children
Parents must come into school to collect their children. They will not be permitted to go past the pick-up point if they are not with an adult.

Room 2 Class Happenings

We have been working really hard on our routines for the beginning of the year. We have learned the process that we need to go through when writing a story.
1. Think of an idea to write about.
2. Draw a picture about it
3. Write some words we know all by ourselves
4. Copy under the teachers writing/write the sounds of tricky words.

Here is an example of some of our swimming stories. We have enjoyed our time at the pool this week and the children have already made fantastic progress. We are extremely tired though and I hope we all get some good rest over the weekend (teacher included!).
