4 August

Dear Parents

Welcome back to Term 3. A special welcome to Robbie Humm & Ben Bryan.

Also to Kay Teviotdale who will be teaching in Room 2 on Fridays, and our two new teacher aides, Paula Hoskin & Jacqui O’Connor.

We are looking forward to another busy term with our Hangi next week and the Bike Safety Fun day the week after, to start the term off. This is all leading up to the start of the World Cup in September.

The holiday times have been changed this year to cater for the World Cup, especially in regards to traffic congestion in Auckland. This means that Term 4 will only be for 6/7 weeks.

Good luck to Georgea Newell, Caelan O’Connor and Ella Richardson who are representing All Saints in the year 5 Southland Netball tournament this Tuesday.

Our prayers are with the McKenzie and Hibbs-Fearn families this week.

Room 7 Class Happenings

Welcome back to Term 3.

This week we focused on adding language features into our writing. Some of the language features we have focused on are: similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, direct speech, descriptive language and contractions.

Our task was to write about a highlight in our holiday and include at least two language features. Later, after proofreading with a partner, we highlighted the language features and shared with the class.

Here are a few examples. I wonder if you can name what language features was used in each of the following:

I went to the swimming pool. Splash, splash, splash! I went on a big rocket ship. It was very long. McKenzie

In the holidays it snowed like heaven…… When I went outside it was cold as an ice rink. …….. When I went inside by the way, I took my kitten and dog outside, they went nuts! Monique

….I got a little yellow helicopter which is only supposed to fly inside. Antony

… The pavlova cake tasted crunchy and gooey. Bridie

…Our team gets to see the giant stags playing. …I am a lock, and in one part of the game I was sprinting and one of the guys smashed me as hard as he could.

William

‘I had the best time ever,” I said to Jessica. Natalya

This week we have been investigating grams and discovering just how light 1 gram is (a paperclip is about 1 gram).

At home this week we want you to find objects that when combined have a mass of 100 grams. Put them in the ziplock bag and bring them to school to put in our 100 gram display.
