Congratulations to Fr. Jacob who celebrated 30 years in the Priesthood yesterday.

Thank you to the children in Room 8 who helped celebrate Miss Swney’s birthday today.

Polyfest

Well done to all the children who took part in the Polyfest on Tuesday. You put on an excellent performance and it was good to see such a colourful photo in yesterday’s paper. A special thanks to all the parents who helped out and a huge thanks to Matalaoa Taito, Ele Seau and Mrs Tagomoa-Kaa.

Tablet

Please take note of the picture of Neve Waddel in this weeks edition of the Tablet. She is portraying Joseph in our school production “Let it Shine”.

Pastoral Care

As part of our school review process in 2013 we are looking at Pastoral Care.

I will be putting information in the newsletter over the next couple of weeks and will ask for feedback from parents and children.

What is Pastoral Care?

• An expression of the philosophy and vision of the school.
• Embraces networks of relationships between administrators, students, staff, parents and the wider community.
• Is not imposed but arises out of a shared dialogue with all members of the community towards creating a climate of growth and well-being for all.
• Involves formal and informal experiences of care.
• The integration of the cognitive, social and religious dimensions of a school’s energy so that an atmosphere of care prevails in the school community.
• All measures to assist an individual person or a community reach their full potential, success and happiness by coming to a deeper understanding of their own humanness.
• Is reciprocal and integral to teaching.
• A concerned response to people’s needs such as self esteem, self discipline, developing relationships, communicating effectively, dealing with challenges, finding spiritual meaning and achieving potential.
• Recognises, involves, affirms and encourages all to live life to the full.
• Developing emphathetic relationships so that the people in the school community are nurtured into wholesome maturity.
• Is not problem-centred but is characterized by a sense of care, kindness and celebration.
• The care that embraces the total life of the school by recognising and developing each person’s gifts.

FAITH FACT FOR WEEK 4 Communion

As a Christian term this is a translation of the Greek ‘koinonia’ meaning sharing or fellowship. St Paul used the term to describe the close union that Christians, through the power of the Holy Spirit, have with God and with each other. In itself this communion reflects the unity among the persons of the Holy Trinity. The link between the vertical (with God) dimension and the horizontal (with people) dimension of this communion is both signified and strengthened in the celebration of the Eucharist when the members of the Church (the body of Christ) share in the ‘body of Christ’ in ‘holy communion’.

Have you got Spare Sports Gear, someone else could use???

Pass it on – Wednesday 4^th September.

If you have unused sport or fitness equipment, Sport Southland wants you to PASS IT ON to schools and community organisations on Wednesday 4^th Sept.

Simply drop your gear off to your local school and they will call us to pick it up. The gear will be distributed to schools, clubs and community organisations in need.

Hockey Results:

Ballers played St Theresa’s Green and won 3-0.  POD was Robbie Humm.

Stars played Woodlands and won 8-0. POD was Caleb Hickey.

Achievements

Congratulations to Caleb Wolf and Alex Harrington who were runners up in the Under 11 doubles at the Southland Table Tennis Champs on Saturday.

Class Happenings   ~   Room 6

In Religious Education in Room 6 we are learning about a Messiah.  We conducted some research and gathered together these facts about some people who have made a difference in other people’s lives.

Nelson Mandela

Stood up for the equality of all races.

Was put in prison for 38 years for being a black man.

He led non-violent protests against apartheid in South Africa.

Stood up for the black people who had no rights in South Africa.

He stood up for people’s freedom.

He won the Nobel Peace Prize in

He was the first black president of South Africa.

Michael Jackson

He was a famous singer and dancer.

Sang songs to raise money for the poor.

He was known for the “Moon Dance”/

He wore on glove.

He sang the song “Billie Jean”.

His songs give a message.

Mother Teresa

Cared for the sick and the poor in Calcutta, India.

She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

She started the Sisters of Charity.

She spent her life helping people.

She came from Albania.

She believed in God.

She said “Peace begins with a smile.”

Jesus was the Messiah that the people of Palestine were waiting for.
