Dear Parents

Welcome back to Term 4. I hope the fine weather we are having continues.
Two of the major events this term are the Year 6 school camp at Bannockburn and the school fair on Sunday 7th November.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Young family this week.

NZEI Meetings
Over the next week teachers will be attending NZEI meetings to discuss their Collective Agreement, which expired earlier this year. Disruptions to classes will be kept to a minimum.

Sr Mary MacKillop Canonisation 17th October
This Sundays Mass will celebrate the Canonisation of Sr Mary MacKillop. The school will celebrate as well with a special assembly on Tuesday at 1.45 pm.

JR McKenzie Trust – Year 6 Children
Parents of Year 6 children are eligible to apply for funding from the JR Mackenzie Trust to assist with uniform and similar expenses as their child moves to high school. Please contact me on 0274918694 or principal@shsinv.school.nz for more info.

Dance Competitions
Congratulations to the following children who competed in various dance competitions recently: Eli Winders, Anika Winders, Emma Harrington, Kayla Boniface, Aimee Brookland, Breyah Takitimu, Brooklyn McLeod & Paris Johnson. Due to the extremely successful results we are unable to list all placings.

Assembly
Next week our assembly will be on TUESDAY at 1.45 in the hall. We will begin with a liturgy to celebrate the life of Mary MacKillop who is the co-founder of Josephite Sisters. She will achieve sainthood this Sunday at her canonisation in Rome.

Sisters of Mercy Mass
We will celebrate the Sisters 60 years in Waikiwi Parish with a school Mass on Friday 26th November at 9.30 a.m. Parents are most welcome to join us.

Summer Uniform
Thank you for having the children looking so good in their summer uniforms. We have reminded the children this week about the following:

• Sunhats are a compulsory part of the uniform and need to be at school every day.
There is a new supply on order and we expect them next week.
• Sports shoes are to be worn only with sports uniform.
• All children must wear shoes and socks, or sandals when leaving school at the end of the day. This is for health and safety reasons.
• Long hair is to be tied up with the correct colour hair ties: blue, red, black or white.
• Thank you for your support with helping the children wear our school uniform with pride.




School Photo’s
These will be taken this Monday (18th). Please ensure your child is in the correct uniform. If you have requested a family photo, please be at school with pre-schoolers by 8.40 am.

Room 1 Class Happenings

We had a duckling in our class this week. Here are some of the stories we have written about it.

The duckling was under my car. I put the duckling in the basket - Anika

We held the baby duckling in our hands. It felt wet -Jules
The duckling came to school today. It quacked and quacked and didn’t stop quacking. When it was on the mat it stopped quacking - Zane

I patted the duckling. It felt funny. I liked the duckling. He kept on running.
He quacked a lot - Aubrey

A duckling came to school. I liked the duckling. I got to hold the duckling and I got to pat it. The duckling was cute - Kate

I loved the little duckling. I got to hold it. It was under the car. Anika brought it to school - Josh Newell

PTA NOTICES

Meeting this Wednesday 20th 7.30pm at school.

Disco – This is to be held Thur 21st October, gold coin entry. Juniors (Rms 1-3) = 6-7.30pm, seniors (Rms 5-9)
7-8.30 pm. Siblings are most welcome if accompanied by parents. Snacks & glow products will be available to buy, free tea and coffee for adults.

Sun Hats - Our school sun hats are being delivered next week. $10 each.

Pinafores - An order will be placed soon for these. If you wish to order one please call Amanda on 215-7663.

Fair – Sunday 7th November - In the coming week’s families will receive a call from the fair committee representative from your children’s class, asking you to help where you can and join your child’s class roster to man the stall that this class is responsible for. Please help where you can as many hands make light work and it’s a great opportunity to get involved with your children and other parent’s in their class.

If you have unwanted hair gel or hairspray, please send to the office.
Please also keep stashing items for the white elephant stall.
Please also consider collecting small change for children to spend on the day, this really helps us to provide correct change for the stalls.

On the day of the fair we have a Devonshire Tea stall with fresh scones and jam. To help our keep our costs to a minimum, we ask our parent community to help in making the scones. Next week we will publish the scone recipe in the newsletter and if you could please make a batch and store these in your freezer to bring on the day of the fair (or make them the weekend of the Fair) for the Devonshire Tea stall (or the chocolate wheel) that would be fantastic.

We also have a mystery bottle auction on the chocolate wheel and ask for each family to please send in a bottle - this can be any sealed bottle eg wine, sauce, cleaner?? Each bottle is wrapped and the fun is bidding or taking tickets on something unknown! It would be great if the bottles can be left at the office over the next week (by Friday 22nd Oct) so we can tick this one off the list of action items to complete.

Also gardeners, if there are veggies spare in the garden (or in Granddads) please bring these on the day of the Fair for the Chocolate Wheel – these are always a hit.

Thanks to all those parents who have already been supporting the planning for this year’s fair and to everyone who gets involved from this point on - we all have the opportunity to make new friendships, while also making good money for the school with everyone’s help!
