10 November

Dear Parents

As you can see below we have a number of events happening this term including the camp and art presentation, the talent quest and our Year 6 day out. We are also looking forward to the Parish Mission (see the newsletter insert), the group of children receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist on Sunday 20th, Jump Jam and our Mission Fair on the 2nd December.

Welcome to Jack Roskilley who joined the children in Room 1 on Monday. We hope he enjoys his time at Sacred Heart.

Our prayers are with Fr. Jacob and also the Smith family.

Sacred Heart School 50th Jubilee

Next year, 2012, is the 50th Jubilee year of Sacred Heart School. A meeting will be held in the Sacred Heart Parish meeting room at the Catholic Presbytery, North Road, Waikiwi on Monday 21st November 2011 at 7.30pm. The purpose of this meeting is to gauge initial interest in the proposal for a Jubilee celebration and, dependent on that interest, to canvass ideas about how best to commemorate this milestone.

Looking forward to seeing you there. Trish Ward (pdward@xtra.co.nz )

Outstanding Activity Fee

With only 5 weeks left of the term, outstanding accounts at the school need to be given immediate attention please. We are not in a position to cover this debt.

Mission Fair

We hold a school Mission Fair every 2nd year. Any funds raised go to our school mission efforts, both locally and overseas.

This year it will be held at school on Friday 2nd December from 1.30 – 2.30 pm and will be similar to the stalls the Year 6 children held to raise funds for camp.

Room 7, 8 & 9 will be organising the stalls.

Can we ask the children in Rooms 1 – 6 to bring a hamper item please to the office next week. Thank you.

A big thanks to Sports Southland, staff, Mrs Winders and our parent helpers for making Tuesday such a success. The children had a great time at Elizabeth Park, trying out the different cycling activities. I think our school won the prize for the most crashes.

With our last day of term being 14 December, OSCAR care will be available in the hall from 12.30pm on this day.

Garden Club

In the holidays Sunrise Rotary kindly donated two garden boxes, with soil , seedlings and some seeds to Sacred Heart. They have been set up behind the library. We enjoyed planting them out with the help of Mr Parker, our caretaker and Mrs Winders last week. We hope to enjoy silverbeet, lettuces, carrots, parsnips and potatoes from our garden.

Thanks to the support of parents, many families will have received their garden kit from the South Coast Environment Society. Happy planting and remember to fill in the diary as you will later be given the opportunity to send them in for a certificate acknowledging your success.

Facebook

In an endeavour to reach more parents, we are setting up a Facebook page to allow parents to keep in touch with school events. More info as soon as it is set up.
