Dear Parents
A belated welcome back to Term 4 at Sacred Heart School. It seems a bit strange to be saying that there are only 5 and a half weeks of the term left.
During the holidays we were informed that Marie Watts had died in a car accident as she and Alan were on their way to a new life in Auckland. Alan has been Principal at St. Patrick’s for the past 20 years and has been a great advocate for education in Southland. Our prayers have been with him during this sad time.
I was also fortunate to be at Stewart Island last week with Room 9. It was an excellent camp and I wish to thank Mrs Lieshout and all the children and parents for making it so.
We welcome Abby Lynch and Desmond Tioki-Punga, two students from the College of Education to Rooms 2 & 3.

Reports
The end of year reports will follow the same format as in previous years with one addition.
In previous reports we have indicated where students are, in regards the time the reports have been issued i.e. comments at the start of Term 2 relate to where your child was then in relation to where they should be at the end of the year.
After discussion with the ERO team last term regarding this, the judgement we will make will be based on where the standards say a child will be at the end of their 1st, 2nd & 3rd year at school and at the end of Yr 4, 5 & 6. This will be ok for children in Yr 4, 5 & 6 and Yr 1, 2 & 3 children with birthdays in November & December, but maybe confusing for others.
In future reports, I will explain this further to help address any issues when reports come home.
Parish Mission
Sacred Heart Parish will be having a MISSION from Friday 11 November to Friday 18 November. A team of 10-12 Missionaries from Wellington will visit our Parish and will be providing Seminars to assist people in developing their faith. Some seminars will be during the morning and some in the evenings. Further information of exact times will follow. The team will also have sessions here at school with the children.
The Parish Council is requesting assistance with providing billets accommodation or assistance with the use of a vehicle, as the visitors plan to visit each family within the parish. If you are able to assist with providing accommodation or a vehicle please contact Fr Jacob – phone 215-7315. We will send further information as it comes to hand.
Adoration followed by Mass each day at 9:00 am, Tues to Thurs, Morning Session follows Mass and the Evening session 7.00pm each evening. Come and experience the New Evangelisation talked about by the Pope.
Pray for Deacon Vaughan Hook as his ordination draws closer.
Deacon Vaughan will be ordained a priest on Friday 2nd. December at 7.00 pm. His Mass of thanksgiving will be at 11.00 am on Saturday 3rd. December. Both celebrations will be held in the Bishop Verdon Memorial Chapel, 89 Church St. Mosgiel. All are invited!

OSCAR
With our last day of term being 14 December, OSCAR care will be available in the hall from 12.30pm on this day.
Wednesday, 9 November 2011 is Nude Food Day.

Acheivements
Aimee Brookland – received 3x 2nds, 2 x3rds and was named Most Promising Tap Dancer at last weekend’s Alexandra Musical Society Competitions.
Sports Results
Under 6 Soccer won their 1st game of the season 2 – 1 against Southern All Whites.
Summer Smith and Keara Paraki both got players of the day.

Class Happenings – Room 8
This week Room 7 & 8 went on a class trip to the Southland Museum and Queens Park. Our inquiry topic this term is “In what ways can native endangered animals be preserved?” We had a look at the Tuatara and we even got to touch one!! Colin from the museum also brought out an insect that the Tuatara eat called a ____________ it jumped off his hand and onto Briana’s lap, everyone screamed, including Mrs T-K. We also had a look at the rare and extinct birds of New Zealand where we did a quick mini project on them with Koreena.
The weather wasn’t too flash for us, but we toughed it out and moved onto Queens Park to eat our lunch. We then walked around to explore the animals and bird aviary. It was soooooo cool. We even saw some of the birds being fed.

Sacred Heart’s Got Talent
Next Thursday during lunch time we will be holding auditions in the hall for our Sacred Heart’s Got Talent Quest. If your child would like to enter please read the following information and fill out the form below. This needs to be in to Mrs T-K by Tuesday 8th November. Conditions of entry:
- You may show off any talent that you have including, dancing, singing, playing of an instrument.
- Each entry must be within the time frame of 4 minutes and no longer.
- Costumes, props etc will only be needed if the contestant gets into the finals
- If the contestant needs music, this needs to be organised by them and handed to Mrs T-K on either a CD or pen drive the day before their audition.
