FAITH  FACT FOR WEEK 6

The Sacrament of Penance

The Sacrament of Penance has been known by several names over the years. It was called confession
when the emphasis was on people confessing their sins
anonymously in private. Then it became known
as penance when the emphasis was on doing something
to make up for what you had done wrong. Now it is
more commonly known as reconciliation and it is
celebrated mostly within the community. The
emphasis is on recognising our need to change,
admitting our failure to love God and people in our lives,
asking for forgiveness, receiving absolution and making
peace with each other. It is good to celebrate this
Sacrament during Lent.

Dear Parents

A big thanks to Mrs Lieshout, Mrs Tagomoa-Kaa, Miss Swney, Mrs Page and all our parent helpers for making our athletics day such a success yesterday.
All of our children competed to the best of their abilities and we had some outstanding athletes who will represent the zone at Southland Athletics on Saturday 23rd March. More information will be available after the results have been collated.

Also a big thanks to the parents who have been able to assist in the changing rooms at the swimming pool. From a personal point of view a special thanks to the dads who have been able to help, we look forward to round 2 next week.

The Matui-Watson family would like to thank the parents and staff involved in the lovely gesture of providing meals for the family during their difficult time over the last couple of weeks. This was very much appreciated.

NZEI Meeting – Thursday 14th March
On Thursday 14th March teachers are requested to attend a paid union meeting to discuss their collective agreement that lapsed in August 2012.  If possible, could children please be collected by 1.30 pm. If not, adequate supervision will be in place and buses etc will run as normal.
I haven’t made this request lightly but in past years there has been more than one meeting available for teachers to attend, so disruption has been minimal. That option isn’t available this time around.

Class Happenings – Room 8

Did you know that everyone is a writer?  This week we used a poem called ‘Hide and Seek’ by Vernon Scannell as a motivator and guide to help us write a piece based on our own experiences of a game of hide and seek.

“I’m ready!  Come and find me!”  The bales in the paddock were such a good hiding spot.  I jumped in.  I smelt fresh hay come drifting on the wind.  I sniffed it up and quietly breathed it out.  I felt warm summer hay under my feet.  I wonder if my brother will……….. WAIT!  I hear a sound of crackling dry hay.  Was it the wind or was it Tim?  He stopped.  I saw a shadow reflecting onto the bale.  I froze like ice but he carried on down the pile of bales.  I knew he would be back so I squeezed through the next hole.  There was a cold breeze on my face but still I did not give up.  How I wish he had found me!  I was getting bored and the cold was going down through my body.  Minutes later he found me and I was sure glad!!

“I’m ready!  Come and find me!”  As I hide in the dark, I hear noisy footsteps behind the pillows.  The light turns on.  I’m still and quiet.  I do not move at all as I peer out a small gap in the pillows.  They search all around but they do not find me.  They go out of the room.  I stay silent.  They return.  I see something.  It’s my cat Timmy.  He jumps up on the bed with me.  I leap out.  “Surprise!” I say.  “I win!”
                                                                                                            Katelyn

“I’m ready!  Come and find me!” Under the wool blanket, it’s warm and cosy.  I can see little bits of dust floating in the sunlight.  I can hear running footsteps on the carpet in the hallway.  I know it is my big brother Campbell.  It felt like I was hiding for half an hour.
                                                                                                            Aiden H

“I’m ready!  Come and find me!” I call out into the darkness as a shiver goes down my back.  The warmth heats my bones as I wait for them to find me.  I quietly peer out but quickly put my head down again when I hear footsteps coming my way.  “Come out!  Come out wherever you are!” I hear a voice say.  I hold my breath as they check behind the couch.  “Where are you?” I hear someone mumble.  He finally walks out when I feel brave enough to take another look.  When I know I’ve won I still stay stiff, too scared to move.  A shiver runs through my bones as I know it’s not safe to hide there any more.   I smell popcorn.  My favourite, with lots of butter!  I quietly sneak out.  “Almost there.”  I whisper.  “Found you!”  I hear as I’m scooped into a hug.  Shadows dance on the wall in front of me.  I know that I’ve won!

“I’m ready!  Come and find me!”  My dogs kennel is the perfect spot I say to myself.  It smells a bit hairy but that doesn’t matter too much.  It’s dark, cold and windy.  I want to go and grab my jersey but my brother will find me!  Then my cat comes and starts meowing.  I try to get her to be quiet but she won’t stop.  After five minutes, she finally stops.  But wait!  I can hear the stones rustling and a car door opening.  I hold my breath.  I can feel butterflies in my tummy.  I peek out and look around.  Everything is normal until suddenly I see my brother searching for me.  It gets colder and colder.  I start to shiver until I decide to give up.  I can’t take it any more!  I get up.  I yell, “You can’t find me!”  I walk into the house and see William smiling.
