5 April
Dear Parents
Thank you to those people who were able to join us at Mass on Sunday. The Palm Sunday Mass is especially important in the preparation for Holy Week. It’s also is a good lead in for us as we prepare for our Easter Liturgy this afternoon.
Thank you to the PTA for organising the picnic and games afterwards. Again the weather was perfect.
Sadly today we say goodbye to Miss O’Neill, Patrick Ryan (who is moving to Nelson) and Elsie, Greta & Oliver Wallace (who are moving to Dunedin). We wish them all the best in their future.
A special thanks to Paul Wallace for the support the school has received during his time as manager of Countdown.
Mrs Pauline Mitchell will be teaching in Room 1 next term. Mrs Mitchell has relieved a number of times already this year and we look forward to her joining us next term.
Thank you to all parents for your help and support this term.
*REFLECTION ON SUNDAY’S GOSPEL READING (From Lectio Devina)
SEE AND BELIEVE
This is a compelling narrative – Jesus’ body has disappeared. Mary Magdalene makes the discovery. You can read about her encounter with Jesus in the verses following today’s reading.
So this passage focuses mainly on the two disciples: Peter and another whom tradition identifies as the apostle John.
The narrator tells us that John believes as soon as he sees the abandoned linen and the cloth which covered Jesus’ head in the grave. What caused John to believe Jesus is alive? Some authors believe it was the folding of the grave clothes in a particular style – Jesus’ style, one that John recognised. Whoever had done this was not dead but alive. Surely this must be Jesus. This was John’s first encounter with the risen Christ.
Did John share his belief with Peter? We don’t know. All we are told is that the disciples still did not understand the Scriptures which said he must arise from the dead. But this would soon change.
Mary Magdalene, Peter, John and the other disciples meet the risen Christ face to face in the verses following today’s reading in John’s account.
The eye witness accounts of these disciples are fundamental to the faith of Christians. They knew Jesus died on the cross, they knew precisely where he was buried and they each met with the risen Christ. These encounters with the risen Jesus confirmed their faith in the truth of the Scriptures: because they knew what was said and prophesied was the true word of God.
MEDITATION: Imagine what thoughts and emotions Mary Magdalene might have had when she discovered the empty tomb. Consider the full significance of Jesus being raised from the dead. Why is it essential to Christian faith? How would you explain the significance of the events of Easter to a friend?
PRAYER: Over the next week pray these three verses from Psalm 118. Verse 24 ‘This is the day of the Lord’s victory; let us be happy and let us celebrate!’ Verse 22 ‘The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all.’ Verse 1 ‘Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good, and his love is eternal.’ Listen for the Lord to say something more to you and take the opportunity to give him thanks in your own words.

Room 8 Class Happenings
In Room 8 we have been doing our reading activities. We have been making things like, T.V ads, computer games, postcards and dioramas. It has been so much fun doing these activities. Some of the reading activities involved painting and colouring. Jake, Max, Nathan and Jacob D made a computer game, using the website Scratch. The game was a quiz about the Clyde Dam. They used the information from their reading books to make the game. Come in to Room 8 and have a go. Kayla, Macy, Aimee and Monique filmed a T.V advertisement about ‘Beach Balls’, with the great help from their camerawoman, Tanesha. Shaun, Zane and Jacob S designed a billboard. Janelle, Charlotte, Portia and Caleb designed a set from their book then made a diorama. They look really cool! Cory, William, Bridie, McKenzie and Tom made a postcard to anyone in the class. The picture on the front was from a setting in their book, ‘Happy Birthday, School’. Caitlin and Piper completed a story poster from their book, Nippers. Some people even designed wanted poster, on a character and a catalogue.
Room 8 has been really busy at reading time doing these activities. Everyone is so excited to finish their master pieces.
Some of the designs are AWESOME!
Come in to Room 8 to have a look!
