Dear Parents

Welcome to Corbyn Shuttleworth and Tessa Wright who joined the children in Room 1 this week. We hope they enjoy their time with us at Sacred Heart.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the extended Hishon family this week.

I mentioned last week we were starting to show the effects of the flu epidemic. This week we have been really hit, with up to a quarter of the children away some days.
With the Olympics now over I heard that a container of fence posts and barbed wire had arrived in Beijing. The Irish fencing team had finally arrived.

Unfortunately we say goodbye to Mrs Buxton who is leaving to work in Abu Dhabi for 12 months. Her last day this term will be Friday 19th September. We wish her well and look forward to hearing how hard it is to ride a camel. P.s. we are putting in requests for barrels of oil to augment our supplies.
Miss Tagomoa will finish the year off in Room 5.

Class Happenings ~ Room 5

Speeches: All Room 5 have been working really hard on speeches for the last couple of weeks. We learnt about speeches and what makes a good speech. Everyone had a very good topic and had done lots of research and spent lots of time on them. Sadly, only two people can get into the next round of the competition.

Science Fair: On 22 August some people went to the Southland Science Fair at Ascot Park. I was one of those people. When I had a look around I had tonnes of ideas. If you did go you would have a good idea for an investigation next time. Patrick, Thomas, Kelsey, Cassidy, Michael and Clarke also represented our school. We got asked questions about our investigation. By Ryan

Brother Osmond: Brother Os came to Room 5 to talk to us about the mission of the Church and about Marist Brothers and priests. He brought some hats and balloons and we wrote our names on them to remind us about Brother Os. The hats were to show us that he does different things. We asked him some questions about living as a religious person. He told us that Marist brothers are ordinary people, who don’t just pray all day, but they don’t own anything of their own, but what they have is shared among the people who need it. He goes to the prison to talk to the people in there about Jesus and God.
We also learned that Brother Os doesn’t really like Holdens but would really like a Falcon!! He has some hobbies, one of these is tramping which lets him see all God’s finest creation.
At the end, Brother Os prayed with us. We lit a candle to show that Jesus is the light of the world.
