Dear Parents

It certainly has been a busy week with Russell Wallace & Jeanette Ruri from the ERO office here and also our Hangi yesterday.

A huge thanks to Derrill Kaa & Runi Tagomoa for putting the Hangi down and ensuring the food was so perfectly cooked. Also thanks to Mrs Tagomoa Kaa & Mrs Lieshout for organising the day, Michelle Ryland for being the Karanga welcoming our guests and organising the protocols involved, and the parents who helped behind the scenes to make it such a success.

Also thanks to all the parents, whanau and students from the college, who were able to share the experience with us. Your being here reinforced the meaning of the Powhiri to our children. This has been the first time we have done this and from our initial feedback, it won’t be the last. Thank you very much.

We are looking forward to the children taking part in the Polyfest next Friday afternoon at the Civic Theatre.

Room 8 Class Happenings

Wow, what a busy week we have had!! We would like to thank everyone involved in making yesterday run so smoothly. It was such a great experience for everyone involved, and we hope that you all enjoyed yourselves and didn’t go home hungry.

Children in the senior syndicate were involved in the whole process. Take a look at some pictures from us helping dig the hole for the Hangi, peeling kumera and potato (we discovered that some children didn’t know how to use a peeler, so parents you now have a new job for your children to do; to it being served on our plates. While the Hangi was being cooked, Runi (Mrs T-K’s brother) let us put our hand in the soil on the top and it was really warm and we could see the steam coming out.
