Dear Parents

PRAYERS ~ Our thoughts and prayers are with the Crawford family, also to the families of the students and teacher from Elim Christian School whose lives were tragically lost this week.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM ~ Early next term we will begin to prepare children for the Sacrament of Baptism. If you wish to have your child Baptised, please contact me or Miss O’Neill.

BOT ANNUAL MEETING ~ The Annual meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Monday 5 May at 7.00 p.m. All Welcome.

COMMUNITY DAY ~ A wonderful time was had by all. Thank you to all the staff and also to the parents who were able to participate. A special thank you to Mrs Lieshout for organising the morning.

TEACHER ONLY DAY ~ The staff had a very successful day with Kath Murdoch on Monday. We looked at strategies to assess Inquiry Units to show children’s progress and how the new curriculum can be integrated into our existing school delivery plans.

CONGRATULATIONS TO:
Ben Millynn, Samuel Downing, Cassidy and Georgia Mackie who were selected in the Southland Under 9 and Under 11 Touch Teams.
Also to the children who took part in the School Swimming Champs on Sunday. Especially to Olivia Thornbury who had 3rd’s and 4th’s in her finals and Mitchell Smith who was placed 5th in his final.

TABLE TENNIS COMPETITION ~ TERM 2
Tuesday nights from 4.00 pm to 5.15 pm from 13 May to 24 June 2008. Team entry fee - $10 per team. Each player will be charged $3 per night. Please let the office know by Wednesday 7th May if you are interested.

VERDON PLAY AREA’S FOR YEAR 7 & 8 PUPILS
A meeting with was held with Paul Olsen last week regarding the play area’s for the Year 7 & 8 pupils. He wished as many parents and children to forward idea’s for these area’s (as in the school newsletter).
Without parental input he may get the impression that parents are not concerned about the lack of play/sport facilities, so you need to have your say .. Please edit / forward this email with your name on the top or write your own idea’s and forward to: admin@verdoncollege.school.nz

INVERCARGILL FREE VARIETY CONCERT – 10th May 6.30 pm First Church
Anna Cannon presents her annual charity concert. Head Injury Southland will benefit from donations taken during the concert. Hear a variety of music played by talented Invercargill young people including rock n roll, rock, country, classical, and jazz (Bands, Guitar. Piano, Keyboard and Solo performance).
