2 February 2012

Dear Parents

Welcome back to Sacred Heart for another busy year.

A special welcome to our new staff – Miss Harding who is teaching in Rm 8 and Mrs Cournane as a teacher aide.

Our new pupils: Saphira & Jade Rance, Will Cairns, Jack Morgan, Jimmy Bragg and Nellie Boyle.

Also our College of Education students – Miss Paulin in Rm 2 and Miss Holland in Rm 5.

We congratulate Vanessa, Darryl & Zoe on the arrival of Lucy Ella Williams. We look forward to meeting her.

School Events

This year is a special one for Sacred Heart with this being our 50th Jubilee Year.

Tomorrow, Friday 4th as part of our start of year Mass, we will celebrate the opening of our school on 4/2/1962. There is a jubilee committee and plans are underway to officially celebrate at the same time as our school fair in November. There will be more info later.

Mass will be in the church at 9.30am.

All parents/caregivers are most welcome to join us.

House Colour Day

Friday (tomorrow) is House Colour Day. The children are able to wear mufti in their house colour. We will have house activities starting at 1.30pm. Parents are welcome to join us. House colours are as follows:

Mercy – Red Pompellier – Blue

Marist – Black Harrington – Green

Donovan – Orange Kavanagh - Yellow

After School tomorrow – Year 6 Camp Fundraiser – Calciyum Milk Ice Blocks for Sale $2 - CalciYum Milk Ice is a nutritious snack for children - it's 80% milk and has no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. It is a National Heart Foundation tick approved dairy food available in three flavours – Chocolate, Strawberry and Banana which provides 33% of the recommended daily calcium intake, and a good source of vitamins A & D. It’s also gluten free.

Swimming

School swimming will start this Tuesday 6th Feb till Friday 17th Feb. Please remember the children are able to wear their sports uniform to make changing easier.

Swimming will be from 1 – 2pm daily & 12.45 – 1.45 on both Wednesdays. Buses will pick the children up at 12.30pm and return by 2.20pm.

Meet the Teacher

This will be on Tuesday 21st Feb with parents given the opportunity to see their child’s teacher first, then all meeting in the library afterwards for a short meeting.

School Interviews – These will be held on 26 & 27 March

Zone Athletics – These will be held on 6 March at Surrey Park

Year 6 Camp – This will be in Bannockburn from 13 – 16 March

Flipperball & Touch

All children interested in playing either flipperball or touch, must see Mrs T.K. by Wednesday 8th Feb please, as teams need to be entered next week. Approx cost is $20 each (depending on the numbers of players in each team).

Coaches and referee’s will need to be provided for both of these to go ahead.

Parent-Teacher Communications

Most classes have or will soon be sending home class information newsletters.

I have asked teachers to include e-mail contact details and this is to be used as the first port of call, and also to state a suitable time for parent chats during the week.

Please remember no parent teacher interviews after 8.40am.

If you need to discuss something important about your child, please make an appointment, or send a note or e-mail.

This is more confidential than having an interview in a busy class and also allows the teacher to prepare for or find any information you may request.
