Reports

National Standards – Yr 1 – 3 Report

6, 7, 8

year olds

Below

At

Above

There will be a table such as this relating to mathematics, writing and reading.

The standards refer to birthdays 6yr, 7yr & 8yr, not at the end of the year as in the case for children in Yr 4 – 6.

This means if your child’s 7th birthday was prior to October, we will be assessing them against the standard for an 8yr old in this report.

The language used in the table will be as follows:

Is below the standard, Is at the standard.

Is at risk of not reaching the standard, Is above the standard, Is on target to reach the standard.

If there is interest, I intend to hold some after school meetings to explain the changes.

These will start on Wednesday 23rd & Thursday 24th November at 2.30 pm in the library, for parents coming to collect their children. The meeting should take no longer than 10 – 15 minutes. Please contact Christine or put your name on the list in the corridor.

Year 6 Leaving Day

This will be held on Monday 12th December. The children will take part in an activity during the day, and then meet later for tea (venue yet to be confirmed). More information will be provided after the Year 6 camp presentation on Wednesday 23rd.

End of Year Mass

The End of Year Mass will be held on Tuesday 13th December at 1.30pm.

The reason for the change from an evening Mass relates to seating capacity in the church.

An afternoon Mass means we can give proper reverence to the Mass, as well as fare welling our Year 6 pupils.

Parents, especially those of Year 6 pupils, are welcome, but if you can’t make the Mass, you will have had the opportunity to attend the leavers function the night before.

2012 Classes

Some of you will have noticed an advert for a teacher in the paper last weekend.

In 2012 Mrs Williams will be on maternity leave for part of the year and Mrs Tagomoa-Kaa will be teaching for the year in Room 5. The position advertised is for a year 5/6 teacher to teach in Room 8.

Sacred Heart School 50th Jubilee

Next year, 2012, is the 50th Jubilee year of Sacred Heart School. A meeting will be held in the Sacred Heart Parish meeting room at the Catholic Presbytery, North Road, Waikiwi on Monday 21st November 2011 at 7.30pm. The purpose of this meeting is to gauge initial interest in the proposal for a Jubilee celebration and, dependent on that interest, to canvass ideas about how best to commemorate this milestone.

Looking forward to seeing you there. Trish Ward (pdward@xtra.co.nz )

Class Happenings – Room 3

It has been a busy couple of weeks in Room 3. We have been lucky to have Miss Lynch join us for the last three weeks. Sadly she is leaving us at the end of the week. We wish her lots of success in her career as a teacher. Yesterday we had a visit from Pokey, the red-eared slider turtle, 4 New Holland blue chicks and a baby quail. These are the pets of Zane. The chicks and quail made lots of noise as they were passed around the class. We had to handle them carefully so that we did not hurt them. They are fed something called mash and live under a heat lamp to keep them warm. Pokey hurt Zane by biting him. Photos will be posted on our blog soon. A big thank you to Zane’s mum who brought the animals to our class.
