24 November

Dear Parents

A big thank you to Miss O’Neill, Fr. Vince, Fr. Jacob and all the parents and children who took part in the First Communion Mass on Sunday. A special thanks to the parents who organised the afternoon tea – it was much appreciated.

If you have photos from Sunday, we would be most grateful if you could send them onto us at office@shsinv.school.nz, as we would like to send one to The Tablet magazine.

Last night was very busy with a photo exhibition and two camp meetings in Room 9.

A lot of work has gone into these and we appreciate your support in celebrating with your children.

Good luck to: Sam Richardson, Aidan Hosie, Annie Armstrong, Hunter Cairns, Tyler McLeod, Zane Flawn, Sionelle Cahill, Megan Sullivan and Scarlett Meikle who are part of the Seals Flipper-ball team who are in the B Grade final tomorrow 4.05 pm at Splash Palace. Mrs Hosie (coach) is proud of them, as they have improved throughout the year and only lost 2 games drawn 1 and won the rest.

Our prayers are with the Dawson family.

DVD’s at School

In the upcoming weeks there may be one or two occasions when I join classes together and the children are shown a DVD during a teaching block. I have asked the teaching staff to work on aspects of our maths plans in regards to moderating your child’s assessment results. The fastest way to do this is during school time.

Reports Info Meetings

Thanks to the parents who were able to meet with me yesterday to discuss the reporting format. If there is interest I will hold another one at 2.30pm next Wednesday.

Please let Christine know if you wish to attend.

General Election

Saturday is Election Day. While this election seems at times to have been focussed on cups of tea and personalities, the results will have an impact on all our lives for the next three years. Please exercise your democratic right and ensure you vote.

End of Year Mass

The End of Year Mass will be held on Tuesday 13th December at 1.30pm.

The reason for the change from an evening Mass relates to seating capacity in the church.

An afternoon Mass means we can give proper reverence to the Mass, as well as fare- welling our Year 6 pupils.

Parents, especially those of Year 6 pupils, are welcome, but if you can’t make the Mass, you will have had the opportunity to attend the leavers function the night before.

Sacred Heart School 50th Jubilee. Time to Celebrate! ALL Ex –Pupils and Current Parents are invited to Come Along to Share Ideas and Enthusiasm

Another meeting to discuss the Sacred Heart School 50th Jubilee celebration in 2012 will be held in the Sacred Heart School library on Tuesday 29th November at 7.30pm. We have some great plans for marking our 50th jubilee but we need more people involved to make it all happen. Remember...the 25th reunion was thoroughly enjoyed, and it’s a long time until the 75th! See you back at school on Tuesday 29th. Trish Ward (pdward@xtra.co.nz )

Class Happenings – Room 2

It is hard to believe that the term is over half way through already! We have had Mr P. in our room for 3 weeks, he is a student teacher from college. While he was here we learnt more about healthy bodies – it is super important to wash our hands to keep the germs off them. Germs can get in through our mouth, so it is important to keep our hands clean so that we don't transfer the germs onto our food, pencils or toys.

We used glitter to represent germs and put them on our hands with some lotion. We then tried to take the 'germs' off by using a paper towel, using cold water and also using warm water. We found that the warm water and soap was best to get the germs off. We could see the glitter/germs in the warm water. The paper towels just spread them around!
