25 November

Dear Parents

Along with me I am sure you have had your fingers crossed over the past six days for the safe recue of the 29 miners at the Pike River Mine.
With the distressing news of the second explosion and survival hopes dashed, it was heart wrenching to see images of the families on TV last night. New Zealand is a small country and I am sure within our school community we will have links to the affected families.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and will be for the foreseeable future.

Our thoughts and prayers are still with Sophie Reitsma-Smith and the Belesky family.

I apologise to any parents who came along for assembly on Monday.
The new classroom arriving meant it was safer to cancel it.

A reminder about the Sister’s of Mercy Mass tomorrow 9.30 am in the church. Parents all welcome.

Congratulations to Leroy Francis on receiving citizenship at a Mayoral reception.

Year 6 Bannockburn Camp
A big thank you to Mrs Lieshout, the Yr 6 children and all the parents for making the camp last week, so successful.

New Classroom
There was much excitement on Monday when the new classroom was hoisted into place. Lots of photos were taken and it was really interesting to see the two halves being fitted together.
Thanks to Bill Haydon, the Catholic Education Office, the Catholic Property Office, Donaldson Contruction and Portacom for the ease in which the work has been carried out.
We have also been informed that the veranda over the junior block has been approved and will be started soon.

BOT Meeting
The next meeting will be held this Monday 29th November @ 7 pm.

Room 8 Class Happenings

This term has nearly come to an end, it has gone so fast.
Room 8 having been very busy working on their crafts.
Take a look below at some of the crafts we have been making to sell, to make money for St Mary’s school in Christchurch.

Here are some photo’s that Jeremy, Eli and Robbie took of our brand new Library!!!
Very cool we can’t wait to be able to sit down and chill out with a good book!
I bet Mrs Rance can’t wait to get out of the cold corridor too!!

Wow what an excellent, brand new library, and exciting week for Sacred Heart School.
A massive crane from Christchurch came down to put our new Library in, it’s cool as bro, you should see it!! By Eli

Wow! Look at that big Library, Hey it looks like it is in two pieces!
Wait, it is in two pieces, silly me.
I wonder how they are going to put it back together?
Duck tape might stick it together?
The crane that brought it was HUGE!! By Robbie

Wow! A big crane. What if the rope breaks and then the library breaks?
That would be a lot of waste of money!
I wonder when we are going to use it?
Who will be the first class? By Jeremy

PTA

The school, and in particular the Fair Committee, would like to say a huge thank you to the businesses which have been very generous in supporting our fair by donating prizes and/or goods, services or equipment on the day of the fair. The overwhelming success of the fair would not be possible without the support and generosity of these businesses.

Please whenever possible, support these businesses, and mention that you are reciprocating their support of your child’s school by donating prizes for the Sacred Heart School Fair. It’s great if these businesses receive this feedback and recognition of their support along with the knowledge of our appreciation for their donations, not only by the committee with the inclusion in the newsletter, but also by our parent community.
