Sacred Heart School Newsletters

28 October

Dear Parents

Only one week to go until the school fair. Please keep the items coming in to the office and look out for the forms circulating to help with the various stalls the classrooms are responsible for.
We were visited this week by the “Share the Road” Tour of Southland team with their message promoting bike safety on the roads. We look forward to fine weather next week while the Tour is on.

Our prayers are with the Reitsma-Smith family this week.

Office Closed
Mrs Forbes and I are away tomorrow morning so the office will be closed.
The phone will be checked on a regular basis.

Activity Fees
At present we have 22 families with outstanding activity fees, sports fees or uniform costs. These equate to $2745 and the school is not in a position to cover these debts. Please arrange payment as soon as possible.
At present some parents use the purchase now, pay later method which usually works. But with an increasing number of unsettled accounts, this option may no longer be available. A large number of parents use the drip feed, direct credit option, which is a win win situation for both parties. Please see Christine if you are unsure of any debts.

Numeracy Support
We are looking for parents to help one afternoon a week with maths support. The sessions will incorporate some counting and playing of games with groups of four children. If you are interested, please see Miss Swney.

Congratulations to Eli & Anika Winders & Aimee Brookland who between them all got 1sts, 2nds, 3rds & VHCs in the Open Tap Dancing competition held last weekend.

Touch Southland will be using SportCheck text messaging system this season.
This is for any last minute changes, cancellations and defaults. You can receive a txt message from Touch Southland but there is a cost.
Option 1: 50cents per text or Option 2: 25cents per text, charged at a one-off $5 for 20 texts. If you are interested in putting your name forward for this, please see Miss T or email stagomoa@shsinv.school with your cellphone number and child’s team name.

Weet-Bix Tryathlon 2011 registrations are open now. You need to be between 7 - 15 years of age and can enter as a team or individual. For any further information see Miss T.

SACRED HEART SCHOOL FAIR Sunday 7th November

Only 2 weeks to go, remember to tell all your friends that Sacred Heart School is having a Fair on Sunday the 7th November 2010. Please make sure your bright posters/flyers advertising the fair have found their way into places people can see them, extras are available from the office should you have a need for anymore.

Cake bakers, our cake walk auction works like musical chairs, each person takes a ticket and the cake is won and taken home by the person on the winning chair, when the music stops. We would love to know if anybody could bake a nice cake for this, please give your name to the office or to Carolyn 2159662 (these are wrapped in cellophane, by volunteers on the morning of the fair, to look gorgeous and extremely desirable to cake lovers).
We are also after any home baking to be sold in the cake stall – this can be anything like biscuits, cakes, muffins, loaves, slices, homemade lollies etc. These are very sought after on the day, so it would be great if you could help us to supply some home baking for this stall. These can be dropped at the hall on Sat 6th Nov between 2.00pm and 3.00pm, or prior to 10.30am on the day of the fair.

Some of you may have already had a call from a volunteer parent within your class, and others will be contacted over the next two weeks. We are asking parents to help where you can and join your child’s class roster to man the stall this class is responsible for or in some cases, help us to man other stalls where greater numbers of volunteers may be required.

As advised last week, we need scones for our Devonshire Tea stall on the day of the fair. To help keep our costs to a minimum, we ask our parent community to help in making the scones. Below we have published the recipe and ask any parents, who are able, to make a batch now and store these in your freezer to bring on the day of the fair (or make them the weekend of the Fair) - we would really appreciate your help with these.

Thanks to those families who have already left a bottle at the office. Remember we are asking for each family to donate a bottle for our mystery bottle auction on the chocolate wheel and as we’ve only had about 20 in so far, we really would appreciate if these could be left at the office asap. We need to prepare these for the day and can do this in advance, so it would be great if you could help take some of the stress out of the few days prior to the fair and get these to the office this week.

Please keep stashing items for the white elephant stall. Also gardeners, if there are veggies spare in the garden (or in Granddad’s) please bring these on the day of the Fair for the Chocolate Wheel – these are always a hit.
Kids remember to keep those coins to bring on the day to help with the flow of change.

Scone Recipe (can be doubled)
2 cups self raising flour
Half cup lemonade
Half cup cream
Bake at 200 degrees for approx 10 mins.
Please freeze and bring the morning of the school fair.

Room 3 Class Happenings

I brought my Peking ducklings to school and I got to pick one up in my hand. Other people were patting the ducklings. The mother duck wasn’t a good mother because she didn’t sit on the eggs. So we got a bantam to sit on the eggs instead. George

Room 3 got to see George’s ducklings and it was fun. The ducklings looked something like a yellow duck. They had little beaks. Luke

On Wednesday morning George brought a basket of ducklings to school. When the ducklings were eggs, the mother duck did not like looking after them. So a bantam looked after the eggs. The ducklings were four days old. They were Peking ducks. Jasmine

On Wednesday the 20th of October George brought ducklings to school. The ducklings were four days old and they were cute and cuddly. The mother duck wasn’t a good mother so George’s dad got a bantam to sit on the eggs. The bantam was fluffy as. She had her mouth open because she was worried. Xanthe
