Sacred Heart School Newsletters

22 August 2008

Dear Parents
Welcome to Lynley Ingham, our new Teacher’s Aide who started with us this week.
Also to Ethan Turnhout and Caleb Wolf who have joined the children in the junior school.
We hope they enjoy their time with us at Sacred Heart School.
I heard Darryn Ludlow talk this week in regards the plan for the upgrade of the Southland Museum and Art Gallery. A point he made was that only about 5% of their collection of exhibits is on display at any one time. He explained the greatest need was for more/appropriate storage space and display area. Their plan is for an inverted pyramid to match the existing one. From a school point of view, future plans would hopefully include an interactive set-up, such as Dunedin Museum which is brilliant and one of their main attractions. This would be beneficial as the increased space would mean the Museum could attract national tours such as the Butterfly exhibition it currently can’t house.

SPECIAL CHARACTER REVIEW 1 – 3 SEPTEMBER

CLASS HAPPENINGS ~ ROOM 9

Mini Olympics ~ Room 9 went to the Mini Olympics at Stadium Southland. Most people liked the power shoot and the hockey activities. Room 9 liked it when we were doing the activities like doing the power shoot. Our Mini Olympics began with an opening ceremony. Ryan ran in with an Olympic torch. At the end Ryan blew out the Olympic torch. We were in different countries. By Sam T.
Skype ~ On Thursday the 7th of August, we skyped Mr Forde. It was cool and fun. The whole class liked it. We had to wait for a ring to know when to say hello. It took a wee while until we saw Mr Forde on the Whiteboard. Baillie and Rory and Rylee told Mr Forde about Bluey the pengiun.
It was a bit fuzzy. By Sam S.

WENDY TELFER
In Room 9 we have been learning about the Olympics. So in the holidays Mrs Lieshout rang Wendy Telfer and asked if she could come into our classroom. Wendy said yes. She also rang Glen Horton and asked if Glen could write to us.
Room 9 enjoyed having Wendy in our classroom. We even got her autograph and asked her heaps of questions. I was the leader and was allowed to take photos. That was fun. It was on Mrs Lieshout’s camera. I also got to sit on a chair. Wendy was fun to have in Room 9. We also got to take a few photos of the whole class with Wendy. But Mrs Lieshout took them. Wendy wrote down her signature on a piece of paper for each of us. When she had gone we got a piece of paper and wrote the answers to our questions. We put these on the wall. By Rylee
