Seasons for Growth – Loss and Grief Programme
This term we are running the Seasons for “Growth programme” at school.  It is the first time this has been offered in Southland.  The programme helps children come to terms with grief and loss in their lives.  This loss can be due to parent separation, death of someone close, or even children having difficulty coping with changing schools, a new baby etc.  If you believe that your child is having real trouble with some of these issues and would like your child to take part in this programme, please contact Mrs Stupples (vstupples@shsinv.school.nz) as soon as possible.
The programme will start at the end of next week.

I-pad Mini’s
With the lease up on our pod laptops, we have had a change in focus and have replaced them with 20 i-pad mini’s, which will be used across all the classrooms. Rooms 7, 8 & 9 have been using some in their rooms so far this year and we will look to extend this throughout the school.
The staff begins some professional development next week on the educational application of these in relation to their class levels.

Ski Trip ~ September 5th ~ Yr 5/6
Forms have now been sent out to those children who showed an interest in the Ski Trip. Your seat will only be confirmed when payment is made.
Seats are still available for children and parents @ $115 each.

In Term One Anne Kennedy from Dunedin Diocese compiled Faith Facts for the Weekly Newsletter and Von Cassidy and Margaret Fitzpatrick from the Auckland Diocese compiled Faith Facts for Term Two.  Maureen Phillips from the Wellington
Diocese has prepared the following Faith Facts for Term three.

FAITH  FACT FOR WEEK 1   ~   Sacrament
In its broad sense the term sacrament refers to ways in which the invisible saving power of God is made visible through created things.  But properly speaking a sacrament is ‘a visible sign of invisible grace’.  Thus the Second Vatican Council spoke of Christ as the sacrament of God, and the Church as the sacrament of Christ.  In particular it refers to the seven sacraments of the Church which are signs and instruments of Christ’s grace.

PTA ~ Our next meeting will be held on the Monday 5th August 7.30 pm in the Staff room.  All welcome.

 Class Happenings   ~   Room 1
Welcome back to term 3!  This week we have been focusing on getting back to school mode.  We have been trying hard to make sure that our reading and numeracy rotations are completed to a high standard.
Numeracy Work

Reading Work

For reading next week we are completing our ‘read aloud assessment’.
The following specific learning outcomes will be assessed:
   Able to be heard
   Stands still and holds book
   Develops eye contact
Uses simple punctuation to assist expression
Could you please assist your child with these.
They could practise in front of the whole family and even in front of a mirror.

In writing we are still writing our narrative stories.  If your child has been sent home with a note for a new writing book, can this please be at school next week? Many thanks Vanessa Williams.
